Our reins are made from superior quality nylon cord that we import from the USA. The cord we use consists of four filler cords surrounded by a woven nylon shell. It averages about 3/16" (3mm) in diameter and has a 200 kilogram or better breaking strength per cord.
The cord is very strong and long wearing, it is almost indestructible. It is perfect for everyday use and can be as colourful or conservative as you like. Our reins don't need oiling and can be hand washed with soap and water. The reins have a small amount of stretch until they settle in. With this in mind we plait our reins a little shorter then the length ordered so that after a few rides they stretch out to the required length.
What makes the cord stand out above other materials is how soft and flexible it remains after heavy use. The reins will eventually start to stiffen from sweat, but a with a quick hose down they will soften up again and be just like new.
